Empowering Women Through Digital Skills

Atakum Public Education Center in Samsun, Türkiye, implements an inclusive and community-based digital education model designed to empower women and adult learners with essential digital competencies. Within the national “Dijital Benim İşim” (Digital Is My Job) initiative, and with the support of İŞKUR (Turkish Employment Agency – the national public body supporting employment and vocational training) the center provides free training programmes that combine digital literacy, online safety, and employability skills.

The initiative includes two main modules. The Digital Literacy course focuses on the fundamentals of computer and internet use, online communication, cybersecurity, and ethical digital behaviour. The Digital Marketing course trains participants in social media management, content creation, SEO, mobile marketing, and digital branding — helping them build entrepreneurial and professional capacity in the digital economy.

These trainings go beyond individual skill development by fostering collaboration between municipalities, universities, and NGOs. Through these partnerships, the initiative extends access to digital education across the local community.

Following its national awards for excellence and the employment opportunities created for women graduates, public interest in these courses has significantly increased. Many participants have since launched small online businesses, taken part in digital entrepreneurship projects, or pursued new professional roles supported by their enhanced digital competence.

This initiative demonstrates how local adult education institutions can effectively promote inclusion, innovation, and empowerment through digital skills development.
